Friends, family and fellow public servants turned out over the weekend to mourn one of the area's most highly regarded policemen.
Mandan Deputy Chief Paul Leingang died last week after a six-month struggle with cancer. Officer Leingang was laid to rest Saturday following his funeral at Christ the King Church.
Police and fire trucks, along with ambulances arrived for the ceremony. A number of friends and fellow police officers, including Mandan Chief Dan Donlin spoke in tribute.
Chief Donalin remembered him as a friend: "Man, I'm going to miss him. My strongest memory, there's the funny ones with the ticket, but overall, it's Paul's handshake, his hug, his phone call 'you want to go for coffee and talk.' His smile is what I'll never forget."

KX News reports The Bismarck PD and Burleigh County Sheriff's Department filled in shifts for the Mandan Police Department so every officer could attend the services.

Deputy Chief Leingang had served for over 37 years.
