Governor Burgum Welcomes Bill Gates to North Dakota
The founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates recently visited with another former Microsoft Executive in North Dakota this past weekend.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum welcomed Bill Gates to the area to have a conversation on "important issues facing the citizens in our state" according to a Facebook post. Not much more detail was given regarding the visit.
The Facebook Post from Governor Burgum's official fan page reads in full:
Tremendously grateful to welcome Bill Gates to North Dakota this past weekend for a wide-ranging conversation on the important issues facing citizens in our state, and around the world. Harnessing technology is key to driving innovation in all areas of government, from healthcare and addiction, to justice reform, education and infrastructure.
Bill's leadership and commitment to improving the world around him is an inspiration for finding creative solutions to 21st century challenges.
Burgum's wife Kathryn said in a tweet:
@DougBurgum and I always enjoy welcoming @BillGates back to North Dakota. Thank you, Bill, for discussing how we tackle addiction in ND.
In addition to Gates' ties to Microsoft, his 'Bill Gates Foundation' is well known worldwide. Its goal in the United States according to the foundation's website is, "to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life."
Gates is the second billionaire to visit North Dakota this month. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg visited with oil workers in Williston earlier in the month.
