Could gay marriage be on the horizon for North Dakota?  Conventional wisdom says no, but it may not be that simple.

On the one hand, hard-line social conservatives are a formidable force in the state.  One need only look at the movie "Jesus Camp" (filmed partially in Bismarck) or the abortion flap of recent months.

Then again, much the same could be said about Iowa...where gay marriage is legal.

A recent pool (source: here) shows North Dakota's level of gay marriage approval at 44%, just a few ticks below the aforementioned Iowa, as well as Minnesota, another state that has legalized same-sex marriage.

So...could it happen tomorrow?  Probably not - but a few years, or even months down the road...?
