The North Dakota State Bison had their way with the Cal Poly Mustangs from the opening kickoff as they cruised to a 49-3 victory in their season opener at the Fargodome.

Bruce Anderson and Lance Dunn combined for 5 of the Bison's 7 touchdowns on the ground as NDSU racked up 458 rushing yards on 45 carries as they dominated the Mustangs.

The Bison got the scoring started on their second possession when Lance Dunn broke free on a 35-yard touchdown run. The Mustangs responded with a 50-yard field goal from Casey Sublette on the ensuing possession and that would be all their scoring.

NDSU's next possession was finished off by Dunn once again, this time from 1-yard out on the first play of the second quarter to make it 14-3. The Bison's next two possessions were capped off by rushing touchdowns from Anderson and Dunn, scoring from 10 and 12 yards out, respectively. NDSU took a 28-3 lead into the half and the rout was on.

The Bison scored on their first two possessions of the second half as quarterback Easton Stick ran one in from 9 yards out and Bruce Anderson broke off an 86-yard TD run to make it 42-3. Backup quarterback Holden Hotchkiss added a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to cap off the scoring.

There wasn't much need for the passing game from the Bison. Stick only threw 9 passes, completing 4 of them for 48 yards. He also had 49 yards rushing on 4 carries. Running back Ty Brooks added 82 yards on the ground on 12 carries.

Cal Poly could only muster 207 total yards against a stingy NDSU defense.

NDSU (1-0) will host North Alabama next Saturday (September 15th) at the Fargodome at 2:30 p.m.
