For the first time since the law went into effect back in August of 2011, various police departments throughout the state will be performing emphasis patrols to enforce the ban on Texting while driving.

Officers in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown, and Minot are participating in the emphasis patrols. Drivers suspected of texting while driving will be pulled over. The $100 fine will apply even if you are stopped at a stop sign or stoplight.

Officers from the various department participated in special training sessions held in Bismarck back in February on how to detect texting while driving offenders.

North Dakota is one of only 7 states in the US to receive federal grant funding for texting and driving prevention. This is the first statewide texting enforcement campaign.
