Advocates for Highways and Auto Safety released the best and worst states for highway safety and North Dakota ranks in the worst category.

According to the press release on Monday, January 30th, AHAS looked at various factors to rank the best and the worst states. If a state is without a primary seat belt law for all passengers (front or rear) or has repealed or has no motorcycle helmet law is not eligible for a green rating or ranked in the best or safest category. The safest states are

  • Louisiana
  • Washington
  • Delaware
  • Oregon
  • District of Columbia

The worst states in the report are

  • South Dakota (#1)
  • Wyoming
  • Arizona
  • Montana
  • Iowa
  • Nebraska
  • North Dakota (#14)
