It's that time of year when the deer are out and about and your chances of seeing them on the road are far better in North Dakota than they are in most states.

According to a news release from State Farm Insurance earlier this week, North Dakota ranks 10th in the U.S. among states where you're most likely to hit a deer on the road. 1 in 87 North Dakota drivers will file a claim as such.

October, November, and December are the three months when deer will be most abundant as they move often during their breeding season. The worst times of the day for it are especially at dusk or dawn.

Our neighbors on all sides finished higher on the list. Minnesota was 7th with 1 in 74 filing a claim, South Dakota was 6th at 1 in 73, and Montana finished 2nd with 1 in 57. West Virginia topped the list at 1 in 43 filing a claim for hitting a deer.

Drive safe, North Dakota!
