Plane Lands in Fargo Running on Fumes
An investigation is under way after an Allegiant Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Fargo, having nearly run out of fuel.
The flight, bound for Fargo from Las Vegas, was carrying 144 passengers when the pilot radioed air traffic control and informed them, "Yeah, listen, we're at bingo fuel here in about probably three to four minutes, and I gotta come in and land."
The problem was that the airport, Hector International in Fargo, would be temporarily closed to most flights for the next 20 minutes while the Navy Blue Angels used the facility for practice.
The pilot told the air traffic controller on duty simply, "I don't have 20 minutes."
The plane was allowed to land, and reached the ground safely, but it is unknown why it was allowed to become so dangerously low on fuel in the first place.
Allegiant is cooperating with the Federal Aviation Administration's investigation on the matter.
