Police-Involved Shooting Reported Sunday

Bismarck Police say an officer shot a man after being attacked in his car Sunday morning.In a video clip posted Sunday from the Bismarck Police Department Facebook page, the police reported the officer was responding to an unrelated call at the Bismarck Motor Motel on East Main Avenue in Bismarck.

Before the officer could get out of his squad car a suspect attacked him. The man punched the officer repeatedly in the head and attempted to gouge his eyes.

"The officer did everything he could to fight back," said the report; when he tried to tase the subject, that was ineffective,.

The officer then shot the suspect in the abdomen.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for surgery. The officer was treated and released.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, as it standard procedure following a shooting incident. The investigation continues.
