U.S. Representative from Minnesota - and contender for the Minnesota Attorney General position - Keith Ellison is facing accusations of abuse from an ex-girlfriend.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports the congressman has denied the accusation.

The alleged incident involving Mr. Ellison and Karen Monahan went public Sunday when her son posted the allegation via social media. Ms. Monahan herself later confirmed it.

Ms. Monahan’s son posted that he watched a video on his mother’s computer in which Mr. Ellison could be seen dragging her off a bed as he screamed profanities at her.

Rep. Ellison responded with a comment of his own: “Karen and I were in a relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being.”

He further denied "dragging her off to bed," and said that the video showing the abuse does not exist and that it "never happened."

Supporters have questioned the timing of the allegations, coming just over a day before Tuesday's DFL primary election.
