The 10 Best Public High Schools Ranked In North Dakota For 2023

I still get those butterflies in my stomach when I think of going to school.  I'm not sure what it is, but you just never forget those feelings when you were young.

Now, I've been out of school for much longer than I care to admit myself.  Maybe I was a strange kid, but my anxiety always seem to kick it up a notch when I started thinking about that first day of school.  I can still hear that first bell of the school year in my mind.

Our friends at Niche have ranked the top North Dakota Public High Schools in the state for 2023.  Their findings are based on reviews from students and parents, academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores and college data.  Only one of our schools in Bismarck Mandan area made the top 10.

However, five area schools made the top 25 including:

#11 Hazen High School - Up from number 13 in 2022.

#15 Strasburg - Holding steady from 2022.

#17 Linton High School - Up from number 20 in 2022.

#18 Bismarck High School - Down from number 17 in 2022.

#23 Glen Ullin High School - New entry for 2023.

Now, let's take a look at the 10 BEST Public High Schools in North Dakota for 2023.

#10 Barnes County North High School

New entry.  This school is located in the town of Wimbledon north of Valley City.

#9 Grand Forks Central High School

New entry.  This is the oldest high school in Grand Forks.

#8 Fargo South High School

New entry.  This school used to be located in south Fargo but as the city grew south it's now more centrally located.

#7 Kindred Public High School

Located 20 miles southeast of Fargo.  Kindred was ranked #7 in 2022 as well.

#6 Park River High School

Park River was ranked number 6 in 2022 as well.  Located about 15 miles west of Grafton.

#5 West Fargo Sheyenne High School

West Fargo Sheyenne was ranked #5 in 2022 as well.  This is West Fargo's newest high school.

#4 Red River High School

Holding steady from 2022's ranking.  This is the high school I graduated from.  Red River is known for their championship hockey teams but they've also won a lot of tennis and golf titles over the years.

#3 Bismarck Century High School

Down from #2 in 2022.  The Patriots are the only school from Bismarck to make the top 10.

#2 Fargo North High School

Moving up from #3 in 2022.  This is Fargo's oldest high school.

#1 Fargo Davies

Last year's #1 public high school in North Dakota is this year's #1 school too.  This is one of the newer high schools in North Dakota.
