There are plenty of restaurants in the Bismarck-Mandan area that are fantastic. However, let's get a little greedy and take a look at a few more places we would love to dine.

Being from the St. Louis, MO area (on the Illinois side), and having lived in the southern midwest throughout my radio endeavors, I've had the privilege of experiencing some food establishments that you wouldn't get to while living in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Here are some that would do pretty well here.

  • Jack-in-the-Box

Two tacos for $.99 might be a deal you can only find on 'Taco Tuesdays' at most places, but that's every day at Jack-in-the-Box. Dip those in ranch, or add extra taco sauce, depending on how hot you want them.

Not only that, but who else has an 'Ultimate Cheeseburger'? The only thing that's better than the Ultimate Cheeseburger is the 'Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger,' just as long as you can handle it in one sitting. Or you could just devour a 'Jumbo Jack' which is also only $.99.

  • Whataburger

While in the southern midwest, if there was a place that I frequented more than any other, it was Whataburger.

It is impossible to go to a Whataburger and not be anything but impressed with any burger on their menu. In fact, Ranker recently ranked the Whataburger 'Original Whataburger' as the fifth best fast-food burger. From the 'Jalepeno & Cheese Whataburger' to the 'Avocado Bacon Whataburger', you can't go wrong with any item on their menu. If only they could bring a location up north. The closest one to North Dakota is in Oklahoma.

  • White Castle

There's a reason why of all the fast-food establishments, White Castle is used in the title of a studio movie franchise, or at least the first in the movie franchise. Of course, I'm referring to "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle."

Their sliders are not only delicious, but also unique, given that they're probably the most well-known restaurant to serve sliders as their main burger(s). They're reasonable in price and have made variations of their sliders throughout the years, but after one slider with cheese, you won't want to stop. This could be why they made the "Crave Case" which contains 30 sliders. They now have a "Crave Crate" which contains 100 sliders. It's not uncommon for a group of friends to take on that amount, especially if they're seeking out a night like the one Harold & Kumar had.

  • Waffle House

Breakfast for dinner is amazing and if you think any differently, then you're wrong. Especially when you can go to a sit-down establishment such as Waffle House. Whether you're starting off your day there or starving after a night on the town, the cozy diner feel is perfect anytime.

The waffles speak for themselves. Absolutely delicious. If you don't like waffles, or breakfast food for that matter (you may need to seek counseling), you can try something off their dinner menu. Perhaps a burger or one of their famous 'Texas Melts.'

  • Rally's (or Checker's)

If you're on-the-go, Rally's is the perfect drive-thru fast-food joint. Their burgers, which seem even more enormous in person, are greasy and delicious.

The Big Buford is the burger that's made a name for itself there. Then again, maybe you want a chicken sandwich. Their Big Chicken seems like it's big enough to feed a family of four when you hold it. And of course, their fries, which are arguably the best fries anywhere. Their famously seasoned fries make everything about life seem fantastic. You can choose to get them topped with chili cheese or fully loaded, but why would you want to take away from the awesomeness that is the seasoning on the fries?

  • Steak 'n Shake

When I was in high school/college, if there was a constant meet up spot for my friends and I to use for our go-to place, it was Steak 'n Shake. They often talk about how many meals they have under $4. Right now, I believe it's somewhere around 24 total, so they're always reasonably priced.

And their shakes are incredible. They also have 'Happy Hour' on weekdays from 2-5 p.m. when their shakes are half price. If you're wondering what flavor of ice cream shakes they have, you need to try their Butterfinger or Chocolate Peanut Butter shake, which are absolutely life-changing.
