A little over a week ago, it was reported that Costco Wholesale had submitted for a permit that would allow the retailer to build a fuel filling station in Bismarck. On Wednesday night the Bismarck Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and approved the application.

The approval has brought Bismarck one step closer to having it's own location of the popular big box store. Costco has yet to list Bismarck under  “locations coming soon” on its website, and there are still a few more hurdles the company has to clear.

Primarily, the next big step in the process will be getting the City Commission to approve the annexing of the land Costco hopes to build on. Community Development Director Ben Ehreth told The Bismarck Tribune that Costco has already submitted a site plan for the city to review. Next they'll need to have that plan approved and submit requests for building permits.

In its plans, Costco has indicated the fueling station would be part of a a 157,500-square-foot Costco Wholesale Member’s Only Retail Warehouse. The store if approved as currently planned would be built between 57th Avenue and Brookside Lane, right between the north Walmart and Memory Fireworks.
