With the hot weather starting to ramp up here in Bismarck-Mandan, the North Dakota Department of Human Services and Department of Commerce's Division of Community Service want to help seniors and residents with medical needs cool their houses down.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funds will allow for the purchase and installation of new air conditioners or fans, or for the repair of air conditioners.

To qualify for these funds, current energy assistance clients under the age of 60 need to obtain proof of a medical need from their doctors and file it with the county social service office. For those that are 60 and older, proof of medical need isn't required.

If you are not a current energy assistance client, you may still qualify for funds if your household income falls within the programs limit.
