The mayor of Bismarck makes it official: he's running for re-election.The Bismarck Tribune reports that Mayor Mike Seminary announced his plans Monday to run again in 2018.

The mayor, who ran unopposed in 2014, says he welcomes the opportunity to run against one or more opposing candidates next year.

The mayor's support is far from universal; in May he was the subject of an unsuccessful recall campaign.

The mayor is philosophical: "I love the people I serve, even the ones that don't like me," he said. "We all make mistakes. I've made mistakes. I correct them and fess up to them."

The mayor says there are a number of projects he doesn't want to leave unfinshed. Among them: the Gold Star Community Task Force, and permanent replacement of the recently closed homeless shelter in the city.

The mayoral election will be held in June of next year.
