[UPDATED] Burleigh County Dive Team Works to Pull Stolen Truck From Missouri River [PHOTOS]
What was once thought to have been a one-day job has turned into multiple. The Burleigh County Dive Team along with local fire and sheriff departments are working on their second attempt at removing a stolen truck from the bottom of the Missouri River.
The truck was stolen earlier this year and broke through the ice on the river as it was being driven across, subsequently sinking to the bottom (no people were believed to be inside). Due to weather conditions, local authorities have had to wait on efforts to retrieve it. An attempt on April 18 fell short when the cable snapped that was hauling the truck from the water.
On Thursday morning (May 1), crews were back at it with efforts extending well into the day, unfortunately with no luck. The team had secured the truck and it was making its way out of the water when the vehicle slipped off the cables and sunk back to the bottom of the river.
As of the time of this writing, the truck has yet to be retrieved. We'll continue to update the story as details become available.
