Effort To Dump Prosecutor In Cobb Case Headed For Failure
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — An effort to remove the county prosecutor who some blame for the fact that white supremacist Craig Cobb isn't in prison appears headed for failure.
A petition of no confidence for Grant County State's Attorney Todd Schwarz has garnered only about 150 signatures this summer.
Organizer Greg Bruce acknowledges the number likely isn't enough to convince the County Commission to terminate Schwarz's contract. But Bruce believes the effort has raised awareness and might have even contributed to Schwarz's failure to land a state judgeship.
Schwarz defends his work, and the head of North Dakota's Judicial Nominating Committee says he doesn't remember Schwarz's performance in Grant County ever being an issue.
Cobb is serving probation for terrorizing residents of Leith while trying to turn the town into an Aryan enclave.
