With six cases reported, for all practical purposes, we can now say this year's flu season is officially underway here in the Peace Garden State.

The question remains just how bad it will get this year, especially as compared to 2017 - 2018, a particularly bad year in our state.

A spokesperson for the state Department of Health (as quoted by the Bismarck Tribune) says one of the diagnosed cases was traced to a North Dakotan on a flight detailed at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

She says several cases were diagnosed among passengers on the flight.

The good news locally as that no outbreaks have been reported - so far.

Officially, the season starts in October and runs through May.

Health care facilities are in the process of stocking their shelves with the flu vaccine. The Health Department advises you to get your flu shot as soon as possible. Children and the elderly are especially susceptible.
