MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota State Fair donated nearly eight tons of food to the Great Plains Food Bank, through two efforts.

A canned food drive during the fair last month brought in 2,022 pounds of food — enough to feed a family of four for more than five months.

The fair also donated canned food used to build a display of a combine, tractor and field. Officials say the donation of 13,646 pounds of food is enough to feed three families of four for up to 10 months.

The Great Plains Food Bank distributed the cans to food pantries in the state.
