Today is 'Giving Tuesday,' an annual day of giving observed the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

During this time of the year many people opt to give to those less fortunate and #GivingTuesday is the day when people begin their charitable endeavors for the holiday season.

It is of course important to note that a majority of these organizations are looking for donations year round.

Yesterday, Wallet Hub released a report ranking North Dakota as the third most charitable state in the country. North Dakota was also third in the country for states that collect and distribute the most food donations. The state ranked No. 10 in terms of their 'Charitable Giving Rank.'

The report from Wallet Hub is similar to a report we told you about in July which ranked North Dakota as the 12th most charitable state in the U.S. That ranking came from SmartAsset.

The North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations (NDANO) reports that nonprofits employ 13 percent of North Dakota's workforce and $404 million was contributed in service in 2015.

There are lots of charities registered in North Dakota and if you want to donate to any of the plethora of organizations, the North Dakota Secretary of State has a comprehensive PDF document of every single non-profit registered in the state.

Many national organizations are included on that list because national organizations register their non-profit in every state. The list of course also includes the thousands of non-profits registered only in North Dakota.

In addition to donating to the charity of your choice, we also recommend nominating someone you know in our Christmas with Us promotion. If you know someone going through a rough time, nominate them to win a prize package worth over one thousand dollars by simply telling us their story.
