President Donald Trump's visit to two of the cities reeling from recent mass shootings proved to be as polarizing as expected.

The Washington Post reports the chief executive "laced" his visits to El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio with attacks on local leaders.

Specifically, Mr. Trump "lashed out at Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, both Democrats, over their characterization of his visit with hospital patients in Dayton."

Demonstrations in Dayton included an appearance by the infamous "Baby Trump" balloon, an inflated, diaper-clad caricature of the president.

The visit to El Paso also proved polarizing: a number of residents of the community (where a self-described white nationalist opened fire on Latinos) made it clear they did not consider the president welcome.

The president also exchanged barbs with presidential contender Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) who called the president a "White Supremacist." Mr. Trump responded by mocking Mr. O'Rourke's Spanish nickname.
