Proposed North Dakota Bill To Ban Cabaret Exposure To Minors
"What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play.
Life is a cabaret, old chum. Come to the Cabaret"
But only if you're 18 or over...old chum.
Lyrics by Liza Minnelli and legislation proposed by Bismarck Representative Brandon Prichard R-Dis. 8
Just when you thought it was safe to strap on your stripper heels and put on a public cabaret, along comes ND House Bill No. 1333 which intends to deflate the balloons in your bustier.
The bill seeks to redefine adult-oriented performance and establish a penalty
1. As used in this section, "adult cabaret performance" means a performance in a location other than an adult cabaret which features topless dancers, go - go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest, or similar entertainers, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration.
I was following along just fine...topless dancers, go-go dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators, etc. But then I came across prurient and I confess I was stumped.
Let's head to Merriam-Webster for a definition of prurient
marked by or arousing an immoderate or unwholesome interest or desire
especially : marked by, arousing, or appealing to sexual desire
Didn't we use to call that lewd and lascivious?
2. A person is guilty of a class A misdemeanor for a first offense and a class C felony for a second or subsequent offense if the person engages in an adult cabaret performance: a. On public property; or b. In a location where the adult cabaret performance is within the line of vision of an individual under the age of eighteen.
