Several commentators of the so-called "religious right" have weighed in on the Newtown shooting, claiming it was a result of taking God out of the schools.

I find this a curious statement.  As a student of history who has studied 9/11, the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the conflict in Northern Ireland, the mess in the Middle East, and the plethora of religious wars that have pockmarked our planet, its seem more accurate to say that religion has been among the leading causes of war and atrocities through the millennia.
