Virginia Governor Ralph Northram seems to be doubling down and digging in as political turmoil in the commonwealth continues to deepen.

As the Richmond Times/Dispatch reported Monday, it all started a few days ago with reports of a photo of the governor in his medical school days sporting 'blackface" next to a figure dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes.

After initially apologizing for the photo, the governor said he now believes he was not in the photo and that it may have been placed on his med school yearbook page by mistake.

Response to the blackface scandal has varied from calls for the governor's resignation to calls for giving him some time to decide what to do.

The governor has released no public schedule for the week.

In the meantime, the focus seems to have shifted from the 'blackface" flap involving the governor to an uncorroborated sexual assault allegation against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax.
