100 Years Ago, Women in North Dakota Were Granted the Right to Vote
Monday marked the 100 year anniversary of the bill signed into law that granted North Dakota women the right to vote in statewide elections.
It was January 23, 1917, in which North Dakota Governor Lynn J. Frazier signed the bill into law. This came almost two-and-a-half years before the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women suffrage, was passed in the U.S. Senate on June 4, 1919. The Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1920.
The anniversary happens to fall two days after the historic Women's March that took place on Saturday in cities across the country, including Bismarck.
