Bismarck Police Officers were involved in a shooting on West Arbor Avenue at the Clem Kelly softball complex Monday night (Aug 8th) before midnight.

UPDATE 11:11 a.m. - The Bismarck Police Department has released the name of the man shot by police on Monday, August 8th. 49-year-old Glenn Allen Lovgren is currently in surgery at a local hospital. He is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

A warrant for Lovgren was also at as he escaped from the Bismarck Transition Center. Lovgren was involved in a similar incident in 2011 when police responded to reports of a man holding people hostage at gunpoint. More information on the past incident can be found here.

The incident started when police received a 911 call from a person who said he had two hostages at gun point, then hung up. Police were unable to make contact with the caller. All calls went to voicemail, units were dispatched to the location.

Bismarck Police checked the area and saw a man near the tennis courts who began yelling at the officers and started running into a dugout at the softball complex. The man was not following officers commands. The police saw something in the mans hand that resembled a hand gun. He made a movement like he was pointing a gun at the officers, and the officers responded by firing their service revolvers hitting the 49 year old suspect.

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds. No officers were injured in the incident.

The three Bismarck Police officers have been placed on administrative leave according to department policy. One of the officers was on his first night of patrol with a Field Training Officer, the other officer had a year and a half of time on the job, the third police officer has three years on the job with the BPD.

The investigation continues.
