My favorite part about First Responder Recognition is reading the background stories of the heroes in our North Dakota communities. We've celebrated fire fighters, nurses, EMTs, a therapist, and more. We can add police officer and dispatcher to our spotlight list.

Meet this week's hero, Michael. Michael is a career hero. He is a former police officer and current dispatcher, working in Fort Yates. Though Michael works long hours, he enjoys his dispatching job. That's not all that Michael enjoys, he's also a family man who spends time with his loved ones when he's not on the job. The person who nominated Michael says he deserves recognition and much more.

Thank you to Michael and all the heroes who work to keep their communities safe. It takes a strong person to help others in need.

Check back to the app later today (June 5), to find out who is the winner of our monthly grand prize courtesy of Peacock Alley, 40 Steak & Seafood, and Bismarck Heating & Air.
