Pedestrian Dies on I-94
A pedestrian was killed on I-94 in North Dakota early Thursday.
KXMB reports the individual was struck by a freightliner early in the morning near mile marker 324.
The truck was traveling westbound on the Interstate.
The Highway Patrol says the driver was apparently unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The man reportedly vaulted into the air after being hit and landed in the right lane of westbound '94. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
This incident is related to another crash to took place earlier. Police say the pedestrian, at the time driving a Chevrolet Corsica, crossed into the median and struck some barrels leading into an underpass.
The Highway Patrol has confirmed that the driver of the Corsica was the same person killed by the truck.
Pedestrian-involved accidents on the interstate system are more common than you might think. The Department of Transportation estimates that more than ten percent of pedestrian road fatalities happen on the interstate.
