WHEATLAND, N.D. (AP) — Cass County sheriff's deputies say they have seized 170 dogs from two people at a rural property near Wheatland.

Sgt. Tara Morris tells The Forum newspaper that the dogs were being kept in "very poor conditions" in dirty cages. They were taken to a Casselton veterinarian. Morris says the sheriff's department already is receiving donations from concerned citizens who want to help with medical costs.

There was no immediate word Thursday on any criminal charges against the dogs' owners.

Law officers were holding a meeting Thursday on finding temporary homes for the dogs while their fate is determined
