BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota airports had their busiest August ever, with nearly 98,000 people boarding planes at the eight largest airports in the state.

State Aeronautics Commissioner Larry Taborsky says that was an increase of nearly 11 percent over August 2012. He says it continues a trend that's been ongoing for more than three years.

The Dickinson airport in August had more than double the passengers of the previous year, and Williston had more than three times as many. Both are in the booming western North Dakota oil patch.

Taborsky says the Aeronautics Commission is asking the Federal Aviation Administration to consider North Dakota airport projects as high priorities for funding.
